Principal - Kathy Van Loan

Mrs. Kathy Van Loan has been in education for more than 35 years. She is a native Tucsonan and is a graduate of Salpointe Catholic High School, where she began her career as a Spanish teacher. Mrs. Van Loan earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish with a minor in accounting. She holds master ’s degrees in bilingual / multicultural education as well as in educational leadership that led her to receive her principal certification.
She has been a teacher of all grade levels from PK through adult learners in both public and private schools. She served one year as assistant superintendent of the Diocese of Tucson and one year as a principal, including interim principal here at St. Joseph Catholic School. Her other educational experiences include: working on a government program designing and administering standardized tests, teaching English through immersion to refugee women, designing curriculum for both elementary and high school, designing and facilitating professional development for teachers, opening a new school, serving as an assistant principal, and working as a mentor for first and second year teachers.
Mrs. Van Loan has a strong commitment to Catholic education and the importance of Catholic schools. She feels blessed to be the principal at St. Joseph Catholic School. She brings a deep knowledge and expertise of strategies for high quality teaching, allowing for student-centered academic excellence. It is her passionate belief that all students receiving this support and encouragement will be able to become the very best version of themselves. Mrs. Van Loan is committed to high academic standards grounded in faith, compassion, respect, and collaboration thus creating a Christ-centered community dedicated to empowering students to learn, serve, lead, and succeed.
